When strolling by the harbour or viewing the city from the surrounding mountains, you easily discover that Bergen is a coastal city.
If you want to feel the openness and power of the sea, you can take a day trip by bus or boat to the islands off the coast of Bergen.
The tourist office can help you to plan a trip or suggest a guided tour.
In the summertime it is often nice to go swimming in the sea. There are special swimming areas arranged for this very purpose. See map:
